What normally happens to weird kids who proclaim to see and talk to ghosts? They get ignored, ostracized and/or bullied. Which is exactly what happens to little Norman in Focus Features’ claymation pic ParaNorman, that is until the town needs his peculiar gift. For reasons unknown (the trailer hints to a 300th anniversary of a curse or other otherworldly event), a witch’s ghost arrives and raises the dead to wreak havoc on the living. Norman, however, has the tools to fight the invasion, the question is — can he muster the strength to use them? The below trailer looks great and offers up a lot of fun (and spooky depending on age) bits for kids and adults alike.

ParaNorman employs the voice talents of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Anna Kendrick, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Casey Affleck and John Goodman.

ParaNorman ghost whispers in US theaters on August 17, 2012 and UK theaters on September 14, 2012.
