Although nearly every critic panned “Planes” and chastised Walt Disney Studios for cloning “Cars” without the nod from Pixar, the movie did rather well at the box-office. The result of that success is Planes: Fire & Rescue for which a trailer has just come online. Setting aside his racing decals in this sequel, Dusty (voiced by Dane Cook) sets his sights on helping the brave men and women (is it right to call them men and women?) who put their lives on the line in order to save others. The trailer below, really plays up the sacrifice of the emergency service workers and even includes one the sappier songs I’ve ever heard. Check it out below. Or don’t — there really isn’t much to miss.

Planes: Fire & Rescue employs the voice talents of Julie Bowen, Dane Cook and Danny Pardo.

Official Synopsis:
Planes: Fire & Rescue is a new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team, including spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero.

Planes: Fire & Rescue saves US theaters on July 18, 2014 and UK theaters on August 8, 2014.

Damn. At least Planes had a fun appeal to it. This looks down right painful to watch.

They’re not shy about laying emotional baggage down on kids feet.

As much as I hate to say it, my 7 year old just saw the trailer and asked when am I going to take him to see it. This proves the hypothesis that kids are dumb.

Could it be they put out even less effort in this that went into the original? And after Frozen? This is a new low for Disney.

They’re made by separate production houses. DisneyToon Studios is responsible for this. Walt Disney Animation Studios was responsible for Frozen. DisneyToon Studios is the creator of those awful Disney sequels that go direct to DVD…

I’m not liking the way it is being marketed but fighting wildfires could be cool Just sayin’
