Looks like Captain Kirk’s hubris may finally cause his undoing. I say that because it’s alluded to in the fantastic first trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness which dropped today. While plot details remain muted, this J.J. Abrams directed sequel has all the original reboot cast back aboard the Enterprise and battle stations ready. Rumor has it they’ll be doing battle versus fan favorite villain, Khan. No doubt he’ll be playing deadly mind games versus his old pal Kirk — the fun will be watching it play out in epic fashion. Until the summer of 2013 though, you’ll have to get your fill from production teasers. You can start with the official trailer below!

Well hell, it’s the Man of Steel trailer all over again.
Was thinking the same thing.
Nice follow-up to Star Trek, but like the Man of Steel sequel, I would have rather seen a different foe be the antagonist. Khan, while great, was already done to near perfection by Ricardo Montalban. Bring out the Klingons!
Looks great. This time I wonder if JJ will sneak in a cameo from TNG in an effort to tie all the timelines together.

Best of the big 3 trailers this week, but that’s prolly cause I’m a secret Trek fan at heart.

This is nowhere near a ‘must-watch’: the first film was a terrible escapade that relied on the characters of a dated, cheesy television show -though turning them, essentially, into parodies of themselves – putting them in a ridiculous narrative that went absolutely nowhere, that was only passable for some fans because it allowed for a Leonard Nimoy cameo. The supposed science behind it was so terrible I can’t believe nobody corrected it during production, and the lead performance was anger inducing, turning a somewhat interesting cult icon into just another young, reckless action-hero. That said, I disagree in principle with any film being called a ‘must-watch’ because its predecessor was a success, especially when the director attached to it is incredibly inconsistent.
Furthermore, I find it puzzling that anyone could get excited for a film because of a loose clip-show containing as many explosions as possible, that tells you very little of substance – as usual. However, I do enjoy the nod to the Wrath of Khan at the end, which will no doubt spur a lively debate among Star Trek fans that I won’t pay attention to.
