The upcoming movie The Master is going to raise a lot eyebrows in Hollywood. Many have already dismissed it as the 1950′s drama is said to be loosely based on L. Ron Hubbard and his founding of the Church of Scientology (many in the industry are Scientologists). It stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lancaster Dodd, a charismatic man who weaves his teachings (aka bullshit) to disenchanted WWII veterans and the downtrodden. One particular man, after blindly following and doing Lancaster’s bidding, begins to see through the fog and openly question everything he’s been taught. It’s a deep subject that, if developed in the wrong hands, could come off as preachy or nonsensical but in the hands of Paul Thomas Anderson (he wrote and directed) the tale looks awfully compelling. Check out the trailer below.

Fuck Scientology and all who subscribe to its horseshit beliefs.
They say the same about all the other organized religions…..
And the Oscar goes to:
Philip Seymour Hoffman -Best Actor
Joaquin Phoenix – Best Supporting Actor
Paul Thomas Anderson – Best Director
How old is Joaquin Phoenix? He looks like he is in his 50s!
37. Time has not been his friend.
This movie looks incredible.
PTA is the best and most under appreciated filmmaker alive. Hopefully he’ll get some recognition this year..
Doubt it. He’ll endup getting a posthumous award or something similar..
Hollywood doesn’t like it because it exposes how ridiculous Scientology is. No one likes to be made to look like an idiot – especially the liberal artsy fags in Hollywood.
Beautifully shot. Of course I come to expect that from Paul Thomas Anderson …
WOW. just WOW.
Trailers rarely engage me but I am enthralled to know what the film has in store. It looks so engrossing.
High on my list of must watches for 2012.
