Movie Trailer #2: Ant-Man (2015)

Much better. With this first full trailer for Ant-Man, the overdose of sentimentality found in the teaser trailer has been pushed aside and in its place comes some of the action and the introduction of a villain. The villain is identified as Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), a defense contractor who manufactures the ultimate secret weapon — a suit for soldiers that increases their power exponentially as they shrink in size. Not comfortable with his work being used for war purposes Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) convinces small time burglar Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) to steal the prototype, become the Ant-Man and stop manufacturing. Little do they realize Cross has other prototypes and as the Yellowjacket, he aims to stop them. Check out the befriending of ants, the impressive effects of miniaturization and the riveting scene in which Thomas the Tank Engine — in a cinematic first — wreaks havoc.

Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Hayley Atwell, Judy Greer, Corey Stoll, Michael Douglas and Michael Peña.

I didn’t think it could work but Paul Rudd as an overlooked, unknown mini-hero may now be the smartest risk Marvel’s taken.

I would be beside myself if the climatic battle ACTUALLY occurred on the tracks for Thomas the Tank Engine…

This trailer is an expectation changer. From what I see this may be better than the standalone Thor and Iron Man movies.

Paul Rudd/Ant-Man will fit right in with the cast of The Avengers.

Ants don’t joke around-they would see antman as a threat to their colony and swarm him. Are we to believe that not only does the suit shrink him down in size but it can also communicate flawlessly with insects?

If you’ve come far enough to believe the physics of a suit that can shrink a man to the size of an ant you may as well go all the way and believe it can communicate with them too.

It’s very Marvel. Good, but safe and formulaic. I would love to see what Edgar Wright had written up…

CGI could be better. Those ant scenes look faker than fake.
