Movie Trailer: Star Trek Beyond (2016)

If by chance you thought the Star Trek series, after “Star Trek Into Darkness,” was going to switch gears and focus less on explosive action sequences and more on the spirit of discovery, don’t watch this first teaser trailer for Star Trek Beyond. Paramount Pictures has doubled down on the action instead, going so far as to putting the director for several installments of the “Fast and Furious” series, Justin Lin, at the helm. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a worthwhile story within (or compelling character studies), but I wouldn’t hold my breath. So for now, take a look at the slick editing and bizarre song choice while thinking, “Is it time for Star Trek to be reboot?”

Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and Sofia Boutella.

This is an abomination. The spirit of Star Trek is nowhere to be found in this terrible, terrible trailer.

I’m speechless. In all my years I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trailer that was as bad as this.

Paramount marketers clearly don’t know the core Star Trek demo

I see it now, Kirk and Dominic Toretto race spaceships in the 1/4 lightyear…

If Gene Rodenberry weren’t dead, he’d be dead now.

This trailer is clearly a misfire but a misfire big enough for me to give pause. With all the anticipated movies coming out next year I won’t miss not seeing this.
