Ever wonder how the apes rose up and conquered Earth? The first trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes lays it out for you — genetic engineering with the best of intentions gone wrong. The story may be derivative, however, the movie is sure to excel in the visual effects department (Weta Digital, the folks behind “Avatar,” modeled the groundbreaking CGI primates). Looks pretty good, but once again all summer blockbusters look fun, and then turn out to be lame. So who knows with this, but I’m glad to see Franco in a big role here.
