Movie Trailer: RoboCop (2014)

The ultimate police officer is finally on showcase in the long awaited trailer for RoboCop. This remake basically follows the same story as the 1987 original which saw Detroit police office Alex J. Murphy (then played by Peter Weller; now played by Joel Kinnaman) brought back into service to fight crime and corruption as a cyborg after suffering a critical injury. This updated version appears to not only revamp his armor but it also replaces his cop partner with an increased role for his wife (played by Abbie Cornish) perhaps to raise the emotional stakes when the mechanical crime-fighter regains a conscious and rebels against the puppet-masters of OmniCorp (Michael Keaton being the ruthless face of). The trailer below highlights some of the action to expect while repeatedly explaining to viewers that the freedoms they think they possess are fictional (crazy stuff considering it is actually happening). Watch now in the embedded trailer.

RoboCop stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Douglas Urbanski, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbie Cornish and Aimee Garcia.

Official Synopsis:
The year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years — and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) — a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit — is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: There is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

RoboCop delivers justice to US theaters on February 12, 2014 and UK theaters on February 7, 2014.

I am perfectly happy with Verhoeven’s original, thank you very much.

Oh God. Another pointless remake of a classic film.

I don’t see anything to be excited for. Looks like a for profit, lazy remake from where I’m seated.

And here I thought they couldn’t do any worse than the awful remake of Verhoeven’s “Total Recall”. That’ll be the last time I think studios can’t outdo themselves.

I’m willing to give it chance.

So they changed the color of his armor. Now he looks like a GI JOE. Was that supposed to impress?

I was thinking he looks too much like Batman now.

        Boday armor belongs to Batman.
        Helmet belongs to Ironman.
        Remake belongs in trashbin.

PG-13. This is going to suck.

It can’t be as bad as this trailer makes it seem. It’s got Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton. There must be something more than a paycheck keeping them attached to the project.

Sam Jackson will take a check to star in anything and he needs to stop that shit already. Michael Keaton doesn’t get many knocks on the door so he’ll proabably take a check to star in a tampon commercial. I’m still trying to think of Gary Oldman’s excuse…

        Gary Oldman is British.

Perfect time to dust off the original.

Watered down for mass consumption. What made the original so good was the in your face violence driven by inhuman humans.

Eat a bag of dicks Hollywood. You’ve managed to suck the life out of another classic. I hope this fails miserably.

This is getting a lot of backlash. I never expected Robocop to have so many vocal supporters…

Don’t hold your breath. Jose Padilha has been fighting for creative control since the beginning. He’s been told to pound sand.

“The trailer below highlights some of the action to expect while repeatedly explaining to viewers that the freedoms they think they possess are fictional (crazy stuff considering it is actually happening).”

That is precisely what makes the ’87 original that much better. Verhoeven was making a commentary about the militarization of the police and how commercialism and big business was overtaking society.

I wish they would stop with the remakes.
