Last night the anticipated trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim was loosed on the internet. For me, it’s a bit of a letdown; what I see feels too damn similar to a mishmash of “Godzilla,” “The Big O” and “Battleship” right now. The hokey battle speech by Idris Elba doesn’t help much either. That being said, it’s still a visual treat — watching monsters rise from the sea, indiscriminately destroy cities and fight massive human controlled robots is still a cool thing to witness unfold. I’m also sure (hoping is probably a better word) the embedded trailer isn’t showing all the movie has got up its sleeves. See for yourself and let me know if I’m alone on this limb.
Pacific Rim stars Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Rinko Kikuchi, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Burn Gorman and Larry Joe Campbell.
Pacific Rim protects US and UK theaters on July 12, 2013.

You’re slightly off, it’s Power Rangers vs Godzilla.

Don’t know so much about the mecha end of it but they’re definitely fighting a clone of the Cloverfield alien.

Not so sure about “Big O” but this definitiely has elements of “Evangelion” in it.

2013, the best year for sci-fi/fantasy movies ever.

I’ve no idea what everyone is crooning over, it’s nothing but another CGI orgy.

Looks like a Michael Bay production. I’m trusting in Guillermo del Toro to make this more than just a “shock and awe” campaign.

I see Dance Dance Revolution when the pilots are doing their neural command movements. Looks silly.
