Movie Trailer: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the precursor to one of the best movie trilogies ever made (referring to “The Lord of the Rings,” of course) has, after many restarts and hype, finally debuted its trailer. Many of the cast — Gandalf, Legolas, Elrond, Bilbo, Frodo — are back, this time to face off with the evil dragon Smaug. Along the way, a chance encounter with Gollum starts the ball rolling . . .

The attached trailer keeps the story low-key but it definitely has the “epic” feel to it.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey stars Cate Blanchett, Luke Evans, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, Hugo Weaving, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly.

I doubt it’ll be as epic as the Ring trilogy but I’m certain this is going to be awesome!

Jackson said he was going to remain faithful to the book and from the looks of the trailer he wasn’t lying. I love the dwarf song too:

The pines were roaring on the height
The winds were moaning in the night
The fire was red, it flaming spread
The trees like torches blazed with light…

It’s movies like this that make me proud to have played D&D when I was kid! Looks great.

Only Peter Jackson could pull the big screen adaption of this off. I can’t wait til December of 2012.

Looks good, but why is this being broken up into two parts? Did Harry Potter and Twilight start the ugly trend of breaking a book up into multiple parts to make more at the box office?

I would imagine it’s being broken up into two parts to keep true to the book, just not enough time to go through everything that happens in one movie, look at how many great scenes are added in the directors cut of the trilogy, let alone the fact they cut off the entire end of the Return, when they return to the shire to find everything changed.
