Well, it’s good to see, the trailer for Marvel’s latest offering, Guardians of the Galaxy, doesn’t follow the standard formula for action trailers. Instead of inundating the screen with explosion after explosion, the five so-called “Guardians” — Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer — are introduced by their rap sheets with comic flair. It rightfully sets the tone for the upcoming movie, but for those looking for something more substantial (especially after the teased anticipation) will have to wait for following trailers. Watch the first taste below, I believe you’ll be “hooked on a feeling.”

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan and employs the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.

Official Synopsis:
An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Guardians of the Galaxy saves the universe from the comfort of US and UK theaters on August 1, 2014.

    Not what I was expecting.

Good to see that even with a premise as out-there as this, Marvel will always find a way to fit it into its bland, homogenized aesthetic.

      Please go on…

There is nothing bland, homogenized or pasturized about Marvel. If you were talking DC, I’d say you were onto something…

It’s going to be Antman or Guardians of the Galaxy that starts the demise of Marvel.

    • - The Critical Movie Critics

I imagine any movie not tied to the Avengers or X-Men universe is going to do poorly.

    • - The Critical Movie Critics

Marvel would need several major fuck-ups before they crumble and fall. But, considering they have a core of talented people and stable of beloved heroes, that scenario is highly unlikely to happen.

  4. - The Critical Movie Critics

never heard of ‘em before. looks interesting at least.

  5. - The Critical Movie Critics

I can’t say one way or another whether this will be good but its already off to a bad start with what may be the laziest trailer for a summer blockbuster I’ve ever seen…

  6. - The Critical Movie Critics

I like the change of pace.

WTF was Marvel thinking with this? All the hype and this is what we get? And to think I stayed up late to see it debut on Kimmel.

  8. - The Critical Movie Critics

This is now officially crossed off my list of must see movies this year.

    Buzz Killed.

None to serious. Looks like a blast!

    “What a bunch of a-holes.”

Misfits saving the universe – finally heroes I can relate too. I’m definitely going to watch this.

  12. - The Critical Movie Critics

Well it’s finally here and I’m not so impressed. I’m having trouble seeing Chris Pratt as anything other than a village idiot. John C. Reilly seemed out of place too.

I like what I see so far even without knowing what or who their fighting. Anxious to hear how Rocket Raccoon sounds, I’m envisioning something high-pitched.

  15. - The Critical Movie Critics

It’s a fresh take on a beaten down genre. I hope it turns out good so more can follow.

Move aside Avengers. The Guardians have arrived.
