The “mad scientist” in The Skin I Live In is a well-to-do plastic surgeon. His all consuming passion is the creation of an impervious, synthetic skin, which, if he had 12 years ago, would have saved his wife who was horrifically burned in a car crash. With his goal within grasp, the good doctor requires a guinea pig to experiment on. In an eerie trailer, it seems clear that the test specimen is an involuntary one, and that she doesn’t appreciate being locked up and covered from head to toe in a body suit. Without any talking whatsoever, the trailer relies heavily on building tension via quick cuts between seemingly unrelated scenes — is there more to the story than meets the eye? Early buzz from the Cannes Film Festival says, “Yes.” Especially since the hunt for the man responsible for raping the doctor’s daughter doesn’t appear to be mentioned. Or is it?
The Skin I Live In stars Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Blanca Suà¡rez, Eduard Fernà¡ndez, Marisa Paredes, Roberto àlamo and Jan Cornet.
The Skin I Live In imprisons UK theaters on August 26, 2011 and US theaters on October 14, 2011.

Plot-wise, it looks rather like Les Yeux Sans Visage, the amazing old French film.
That said, it doesn’t look to be shot with any of the atmosphere of that film.
