Women can be a force to be reckoned with too. In the second trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire that concept is driven home as on both sides of the coin women play a more prominent role. On the side of the Greeks, Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) again rouses her countrymen to unite and fight with seemingly better results (she was besmirched the first time she tried in “300“) and on the side of the Persians, Artemisia (Eva Green) takes an active fighting role leading the Navy for Xerxes. Much of what is to come is again muted, although I think it is safe to say the finished product will absolutely be furious, bloody and artsy. See for yourself in the embedded trailer above.

I must admit there is something very exciting about Eva Green acting so cruel.

Women had no place in politics or on the battlefield in ancient times. They cared for the children, little else.

I like the inclusion of warfare at sea.

So some boats are supposed to trick us into thinking this isn’t a carbon copy of ‘300’? It is quite literally the same people fighting again…

Not quite. Sullivan Stapleton replaces Gerard Butler.
