Movie Trailer: Life of Pi (2012)

Today 20th Century Fox has released the first full trailer for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. Based on Yann Martel’s bestselling novel, it is a coming of age story of sorts for a young boy named Pi. In it he must come to terms with the loss of his family and livelihood in, of all places, a lifeboat. He’s not alone though, surviving the sinking of the freighter is a Bengal tiger, an orangutan, a hyena and a zebra (his family owned a zoo). Life on the boat is obviously tenuous at best and Pi must set an uneasy alliance with the animals as they experience 227 days of adventure on the high seas. All I can say is prepare for a magical journey — the cinematics are incredulous and I can’t wait to see how Ang Lee handles the meatier parts of the story. See for yourself in the embedded player.

Life of Pi stars Suraj Sharma, Tobey Maguire, Irffan Khan, Gerard Depardieu and Adil Hussain.

I wasn’t a fan of the book but this may be a case where the movie brings the story to life better than the written word.

I fear it’ll all be effects and cinematography games instead of story.

Nah, it’ll all be existential mumbojumbo….-
