Today, Fox Searchlight Pictures has released the trailer for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and yes, that is the sound of your brain going into quirk overload. Starring virtually every actor on Earth, the film follows the antics of a suave, well-connected concierge and his lobby-boy protégé as they swindle and romance the guests — some quite elderly — of the hotel (the Grand Budapest, in case the film title didn’t give it away). Sure there is enough bizarrity(?) to fill up a passenger train (my nod to “The Darjeeling Limited“) and keep any people-watchers entertained, but watch for the deft sleight of hand, as with all Wes Anderson films, there is more going on under the surface than meets the eye. The trailer is below, and I’m guaranteeing you’ll have to watch it at least twice in order to catch the nuances and count all the cameos.
The Grand Budapest Hotel stars Saoirse Ronan, Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Tom Wilkinson, Owen Wilson, Jude Law and Tony Revolori.
The Grand Budapest Hotel recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune — all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent.
The Grand Budapest Hotel protects air travelers in US and UK theaters on March 7, 2014.
