Movie Trailer: Need for Speed (2014)

Well, I suppose another “Fast and Furious” franchise only with hotter cars and no Vin Diesel can’t be all that bad. Or can it? I’m on the fence after watching the first trailer for DreamWorks’ upcoming Need for Speed. Based on the wildly popular Electronic Arts video game, it stars Aaron Paul (of “Breaking Bad” fame) as Tobey Marshall, a mechanic/racer intent on gaining revenge after taking the rap for a trumped up manslaughter charge. This preposterous story (even though it seems they’re taking it very, very seriously) is only an excuse for what really matters though: The cars. There’s plenty of beauties to be found crammed within the 90 second trailer paired with some first-class car handling skills and explosions. Still, it looks utterly generic to me. Check it out to see if it sparks your need for speed . . .

Need for Speed stars Aaron Paul, Dakota Johnson, Michael Keaton, Imogen Poots, Dominic Cooper, Rami Malek and Kid Cudi.

Tell me how the game aligns itself with the movie. Is it in title only?

Yes. They’re hoping name recognition will capture the built in gamer audience.

Could go either way. If they take it too seriously it is going to hard flop. If they keep the focus on the racing, police chases and explosions its got a chance.

if you like fast cars and crashes, this is your movie. it will fill the void fast and furious left when it went the criminal syndicate route.

This is a serious movie. No room for T&A in a serious movie.
