Comedy meets science-fiction action would be a good description to Marvel’s latest, Guardians of the Galaxy for which a second trailer is now available for. Given a second chance to make something more of their lives the five criminal/thugs/losers — Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer — dub themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy to help Nova Corps face off with Ronan, a bad guy who has less than noble plans for the inhabitants of the planet Xandar. Super-villain Thanos (the entity pulling Ronan’s strings) has yet to make an appearance but fans will get treated to Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) speaking, some good individual closeups of each of the ragtag group doing what they do best and a fitting accompanying soundtrack. Check it out in the embedded trailer.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan and employs the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.
Official Synopsis:
An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
Guardians of the Galaxy saves the universe from the comfort of US and UK theaters on August 1, 2014.

Not feeling it.

I’m liking the unserious tone that they’re going for with this – there are enough comic superhero properties taking themselves too seriously already..

Movie is probably going to suck but the soundtrack sounds like a winner.

You can’t go wrong with good 70s and 80s rock

Black, blue, green. Is there any color Zoe Saldana can’t pull off?

Tie in or not, taking an unknown comic to the screen is a big gamble for Marvel. Its going to be interesting to see how audiences respond to something other than Iron Man or the Avengers.

Now that I’m interested I suppose I should read a few of the comics to figure out the who, what and whys before August.

A good GOTG wiki page should suffice for character backstories. Reading the comics will likely spoil the plot.

I was expecting the racoon to sound differently.
