I’ve been told (and tend to agree) the internet is really good for just one thing: Instantaneous access to pornography. In Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, Don Jon, the title character suffers from a porn addiction made all the more worse from porn sites like RedTube and xHamster. As a bachelor, it’s not so much a issue, but when he meets the girl of his dreams (played by Scarlett Johansson) his “dirtiness” causes plenty of relationship problems. It’s an interesting premise that’s sure to derive some laughs (it was a hit at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year), but the humor could get old rather quickly. From the trailer, however, the New Jersey accents will never bore! Check it out.
Don Jon stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Glenne Headly, Rob Brown and Tony Danza.
Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Don Jon rubs the thighs of US theaters on October 18, 2013 and UK theaters on November 15, 2013.
