Movie Trailer: Foxcatcher (2014)

The makeup may not look the best, but the early buzz says the acting by the three main players is in Sony Pictures’ biographical drama, Foxcatcher. Based on a true story, it chronicles the highs and the very lows of the relationship between brothers and Olympic Wrestling Champions Mark and Dave Schultz (Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo) and benefactor John du Pont (Steve Carell). Particularly of note is the slow, methodical descent into obsession and paranoia put on display in this trailer by Carell who has, much like Jim Carrey, reached for more dramatic roles to compliment his comedic ones (“Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” “The Way Way Back”). And with its release in November, expect him and others to get some attention from the Academy (Bennett Miller won best director earlier this year at Cannes Film Festival). Watching the above should be enough to determine if the initial accolades — even for Tatum — are warranted. (They are).

Foxcatcher stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller, Anthony Michael Hall and Vanessa Redgrave.

I’m excited to see Steve Carell’s performance is this film.

It may very well be a great movie but it reeks of Oscar bait and I am no fan of movies marketed with the singular purpose of coveting an award.

No doubt it’ll have some intensity. Probably have a lot more of the slow boring stuff though.
